FAQs

What are the benefits of consigning your gently used items?

There are many benefits to being a consignor (seller) with Trendy Closet Consignment.

1) You get to set your own price and you earn at least 65% of your net sales. By volunteering, you can increase the percentage of the sale price you keep. Consignors that Volunteer for one 4-hour shift consignors earn 70% of their total sales.

2) It feels great to declutter your closets and know that someone else will love what you no longer use.

3) Make more money than you would selling them in a yard sale, a secondhand store, and even online.

4) All you have to do is prepare and tag your items and drop them off before the sale. We take care of the advertising, the facility, and the sale itself.

5) You get to shop early!  Volunteers and Consignors shop our Pre-Sale -before we open to the public!

How do I become a Consignor?

In order to become a consignor, you need to register.  You can do that on the Consignor Registration page of this website.  You will be assigned your consignor number and can begin entering and tagging your items with our internet based program.  There is a $10 fee which is to be paid at the time of consignor registration.  You can pay via Paypal (a free credit card processing service) or by MAILING in the Consignor Registration form and your check.

What is the $10 fee for?

The $10 fee helps to offset some of the costs associated with the location rental, advertising, clothes racks and supplies.  This fee is paid at the time of registration and is non-refundable.

What items may I consign?

You may consign clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry and accessories in a gently used condition (everything women love to shop for). We strive to have only quality merchandise at our sale and in order to maintain this we do not accept something with signs of stains or having been heavily worn. Refer to our Accepted Items link for ideas on what to consign. Each sale has specific acceptable items.

Is there a limit to how many items I can consign?

There is no limit.

Do I need to stay with my items during the sale?

No. You drop-off your items and we do the rest! Consignors drop off their items at designated times and return at the end of the sale to pick up their unsold items. You may also choose to have them donated. If you want to be a volunteer, we welcome your help! Sign up for a shift.

How should I price my items?

We recommend pricing your items at about 1/3 to 1/5 of the retail price as a good rule of thumb, taking into consideration the brand name and appearance.  Ask yourself, what would I pay for this (remember this is resale)?  Please price in increments of 50 cents.  Designate whether you want your item reduced by 50% on the last day of the sale.  See the Price Guide Suggestion document as a guide.

Where do I find wire hangers?

We require that you use wire hangers for all of your clothing items. Dry cleaning establishments are the best place to get them. Most dry cleaners will give you a modest amount of these items for free or will sell them to you for a reasonable price. You can also purchase wire hangers via Craigslist or on-line. Please note: The hangers will not be returned to you.

What happens to my unsold items?

When you tag your items, you will designate whether you want to pick-up or donate your unsold merchandise. If you choose to donate, your items will be given to a local charity of our choice. We will mail your donation receipt along with your check.  If you want to pick-up your unsold items you must come during the scheduled pick-up time to retrieve them. Anything left after that time will become the property of Trendy Closet Consignment and the items will be donated to charity. We cannot make exceptions to this schedule because we have to vacate the sale site promptly.

When do I get my check?

Your check will be mailed to you within two weeks of the end of the sale.

How can I shop early?

Consignors all receive a Pre-sale pass to shop before the public sale begins.  If you would like to shop even earlier, Volunteer to work a 4 hour shift.  Volunteers get to shop before the Consignors for a great opportunity to be the first to check out the merchandise while you earn some extra % on your sales.

Sounds like a lot of work. Is it worth it?

Definitely!!! It may sound like a lot of work but it really isn't. Once you get started, it goes very quickly. Not only can Trendy Closet Consignment provide you with great financial rewards but can help you clean out all your over stuffed closets.

Is consigning considered "going green"?

Yes! Selling your reusable items keeps them out of landfills while minimizing your carbon footprint.
